Barisan Nasional (BN) is on track to finalise its candidate list for the upcoming Johor and Negri Sembilan state elections, said its secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
He said preliminary discussions have already been conducted, with focus now shifting towards candidate selection and seat distribution among component parties.
“On the basics, we don’t see any major problem with the distribution process as early discussions have already taken place,” he told reporters at a public lecture event at the Higher Education Ministry.
He added that efforts are now being made to further refine candidate lists and seat allocations within BN’s component parties.
Zambry said candidate selection would largely be delegated to the respective BN state liaison chairmen in Johor and Negri Sembilan, while final approval rests with the BN Supreme Council.
He also said any overlapping claims between component parties would be resolved through BN’s consensus-based approach.
“In the end, that is the spirit of BN. We sit together, we decide together, and we place candidates on seats that have been mutually agreed upon,” he said.
BN currently holds 40 of Johor’s 56 seats following its two-thirds majority win in 2022 and has committed to contesting all seats independently.
In Negri Sembilan, BN previously held 14 of 36 seats and will also contest independently after Pakatan Harapan announced it would contest all 36 seats.
