No Signs Of Bersatu Returning To PH, Says PM Anwar

Date:

Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed speculation that Bersatu may rejoin the coalition, saying there are currently no indications of such a move.

The speculation arose following PAS’ announcement on Monday that it was ending its political cooperation with Bersatu, nearly three weeks after PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang accused the party of straining ties between the two allies.

Anwar, who is also Prime Minister, said there were no signs that Bersatu was seeking to enter PH.

He stressed that political cooperation should not be driven by sudden breakups or shifting alliances.

“We discuss matters properly, we negotiate properly, and we cooperate properly,” he told reporters at the end of his official visit to Japan.

He also said he did not want Pakatan Harapan to be involved in any actions that could be seen as undermining unity government partners.

Anwar added that the unity government remains stable at the federal level despite differing views at the state level.

Earlier, Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said there had been no internal discussions within the party about rejoining PH.

He also noted that it would not make sense for Bersatu to realign with PH after its role in the collapse of the PH-led government in February 2020.
