Two Men Detained After Pistol-Like Object Spotted During TikTok Live At Fatal Crash Scene

Date:

Two men were arrested after a TikTok live stream from the scene of a fatal road accident appeared to show an object resembling a pistol inside a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

Kuala Muda District Police Chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said police received a report at about 7pm on Thursday regarding a collision involving a motorcycle and a Nissan Grand Livina along Jalan Lencongan Barat.

The crash claimed the life of a 67-year-old motorcyclist from Taman Ria, who suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the aftermath of the accident, a member of the public conducting a live broadcast on TikTok allegedly captured footage of an object resembling a firearm inside the MPV.

The video quickly drew the attention of police officers monitoring the live stream, prompting them to immediately proceed to the location.

Upon arrival, officers detained the vehicle’s driver and front passenger to assist with investigations.

Police identified the driver as a 37-year-old man from George Town, Penang, while the passenger was a 35-year-old man from Ayer Hitam, Penang.

Further checks revealed that both men tested positive for drugs.

Investigations also found that the driver has an extensive criminal history involving 16 drug-related offences, while the passenger has seven previous drug-related records.

Hanyan said both suspects were expected to be remanded to facilitate further investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960, Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 44(1)(A) of the same Act.

Police have not yet disclosed whether the object discovered inside the vehicle was a genuine firearm, with investigations still ongoing.
