An Indian social media influencer allegedly became the victim of a carefully planned burglary after videos showcasing her wealth and home interior were believed to have helped thieves identify valuable items and map out her residence.
Rachna Gurjar, a content creator with hundreds of thousands of followers, reportedly lost jewellery and cash worth between 800,000 and one million rupees (approximately RM43,000 to RM54,000) during a late-night break-in at her home in Madhya Pradesh.
According to local reports, the burglary took place at around 2am on June 6 in Mohani village, located in Shivpuri district.
Investigators believe the suspects entered the property while Gurjar and her family were asleep.
The intruders allegedly locked family members inside a room before systematically searching the house and removing valuables.
Among the items reportedly stolen were gold and silver jewellery, cash and even a crate of energy drinks.
The family only realised something was wrong at around 4am and later managed to free themselves with assistance from relatives before discovering the extent of the theft.
Gurjar told police the suspects appeared to have carefully planned the crime.
She claimed the burglars had tampered with surveillance cameras to avoid being identified and had entered the property by first damaging a perimeter fence before using a wooden ladder to climb into the compound.
Police investigations are focusing on the possibility that the suspects may have been familiar with the area or lived nearby.
Shivpuri Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjiv Mule confirmed that an investigation has been launched.
Authorities are examining whether Gurjar’s previous YouTube videos may have unintentionally assisted the criminals.
According to police, several videos uploaded by the influencer featured detailed views of her home’s entrance, interior rooms and valuable possessions, including large amounts of jewellery and cash.
Investigators believe the footage may have provided potential thieves with crucial information about the property’s layout and the locations of valuable items.
The case has sparked widespread discussion online, with many social media users warning influencers and content creators about the risks of publicly displaying wealth and sharing detailed tours of their homes.
Authorities have also reminded the public to exercise caution when posting personal information online, as such content can sometimes be exploited by criminals planning targeted offences.
The investigation remains ongoing.
