Rohingya Man With 34 Summonses Nabbed After Attempted Escape During JPJ Operation

Date:

A Rohingya man was detained after attempting to flee on foot upon noticing the presence of Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers during an enforcement operation at Guar Kepayang yesterday evening.

The incident occurred at about 6.30pm when the suspect abandoned his motorcycle and tried to escape through nearby paddy fields in an effort to avoid inspection.

Authorities later confirmed that the man had accumulated 34 outstanding summonses, including offences related to not possessing a valid driving licence.

Such cases of repeated traffic violations among unlicensed riders have raised concerns over road safety compliance, particularly involving foreign nationals operating vehicles illegally.

JPJ Kedah Director Stien Van Lutam said the motorcycle involved was seized for further investigation and enforcement action.

He added that JPJ would continue to carry out strict enforcement against any road users, including foreign nationals holding United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cards, who fail to comply with Malaysian traffic laws.

The department stressed that all road users are required to adhere to regulations regardless of nationality or status, in order to ensure safety and order on public roads.

Enforcement efforts will remain ongoing as part of broader operations to reduce traffic offences and improve compliance across the state.
