Two Women Remanded Over Suspected Infant Disposal Case

Date:

Two local women in their 20s have been remanded to assist investigations into the discovery of a newborn baby’s body found outside a baby welfare centre along Jalan Bukit Gasing in Petaling Jaya last Thursday.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat said police received a report regarding the discovery at about 8.10am on the following day.

He said a post-mortem was carried out on the infant, with medical officers confirming that the cause of death was due to a miscarriage.

He added that the infant was also confirmed to have been deceased for more than 24 hours at the time of examination.

Shamsudin said both suspects have no prior criminal records, while several items have been seized to assist investigations into the case.

He added that the Magistrate’s Court had granted a two-day remand for the first suspect, while the second suspect was remanded for three days until June 15.

The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code.

Police have urged members of the public with any information related to the case to come forward or contact the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters operations room.
