Hadi Confirms Hamzah Zainudin Set To Return As Opposition Leader

Date:

Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin is set to resume his role as Opposition Leader just two months after stepping down from the post, following a decision announced by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

Hadi said the decision was made after consultations with lawmakers from PAS as well as MPs aligned with Hamzah, including members within Perikatan Nasional (PN).

He said the party had taken into account feedback from various Members of Parliament before agreeing to reinstate Hamzah to the position.

PAS, however, will retain Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar as the chairman of Perikatan Nasional, according to the announcement.

Hadi also noted that discussions involved MPs who continue to support Hamzah, including 13 lawmakers aligned with Bersatu.

Ahmad Samsuri, who is also Terengganu Menteri Besar and PAS vice-president, had previously taken over the PN chairmanship in February following a leadership shift within the coalition.

He was later appointed Opposition Leader after a PN Supreme Council meeting in May, following Hamzah’s earlier resignation from the role after his exit from Bersatu.

Hamzah had earlier announced that he and the Reset movement would operate under Parti Wawasan Negara as part of broader political cooperation involving PAS and other aligned parties.
