PM Anwar Claims Betrayal Attempts In Negeri Sembilan, Zahid Disagrees

Date:

Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has maintained that there were elements of betrayal in Negeri Sembilan, despite Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi rejecting the allegation.

Anwar said there had been attempts to destabilise the administration of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, even though the state government remains politically and economically stable.

He said cooperation between PH and BN at the federal level should not be affected by any form of political betrayal.

“If there was no betrayal, that is good. But based on our experience in Negeri Sembilan, there were attempts to bring down the government despite its stability,” he said.

“For me, there was a bit of betrayal,” Anwar told reporters on the sidelines of the 10th annual general meeting of Koprojaya.

Yesterday, Zahid denied claims that Umno had betrayed PH in Negeri Sembilan, saying the party had instructed all 14 assemblymen to continue supporting Aminuddin’s administration.

He added that Umno had agreed to back Aminuddin until the end of the term, although it was the menteri besar’s prerogative to seek dissolution of the state assembly and call for fresh elections.

The Negeri Sembilan state election is scheduled for Aug 1, with PH and BN expected to face off despite being federal partners.

Anwar, who is also PKR president, said his focus remains on strengthening the economy and addressing public concerns rather than rushing into an early general election.

He added that the government should prioritise managing global economic challenges instead of being distracted by election matters.
