A Nevada family has filed a lawsuit against Roblox, alleging that the gaming platform failed to protect a child from an online predator she encountered while using the service.
According to court documents filed on June 5 in the Clark County District Court, the alleged incident began around 2024 when the girl was approximately 11 years old.
The complaint states that she was contacted by an adult male who allegedly posed as a teenage boy while interacting with her in a game called Chained Together.
It is alleged that the suspect used Roblox’s communication features to initiate contact before moving conversations to text messaging and other external platforms, where the interaction reportedly escalated.
The lawsuit claims the exchanges resulted in sexual exploitation, including the sending and coercion of explicit images.
The family alleges that Roblox’s platform design, including its recommendation and communication systems, contributed to enabling the contact, alongside insufficient age-verification safeguards.
It is also claimed that the company did not adequately disclose potential risks to children using the platform.
According to the complaint, the child’s mother would not have permitted access had she been aware of the alleged safety concerns.
The lawsuit further alleges that Roblox prioritised user growth over safety measures.
It seeks unspecified damages, stating that the child, now 12, has suffered psychological harm, including emotional distress and anxiety, and is receiving ongoing treatment.
In response, Roblox said that criminal behaviour has no place on its platform and that it continues to strengthen its safety systems, while acknowledging that no system is entirely perfect.
