Police are tracking down a man suspected of stealing a laptop bag belonging to an employee at a telecommunications kiosk in Setapak Sentral shopping mall, Setapak, on Thursday.
Wangsa Maju district police chief ACP Annas Sulaiman said police received a report after the victim discovered the bag, which had been left on a chair inside the premises, was missing.
He said a review of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed an unidentified man allegedly taking the bag before leaving the scene.
Preliminary investigations found that the bag contained personal belongings, cash and a laptop belonging to the victim, with total losses estimated at about RM3,000.
Police are now continuing efforts to locate the suspect believed to be involved in the incident.
Earlier, the case went viral on social media after a Threads post shared CCTV footage of the alleged theft at the Setapak Sentral kiosk.
The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine upon conviction.
Police have also urged members of the public with information to contact the Wangsa Maju district police headquarters or the investigating officer to assist in the investigation.
