Indonesian Consulate Shelters Two Alleged Abuse Victims As Four Arrested In Johor

Date:

The Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Johor Bahru has provided protection and assistance to two Indonesian women believed to be victims of physical abuse by their employers in Johor.

In a statement, a KJRI spokesperson said the two domestic workers, identified as YY and SH, have been placed in temporary accommodation under the consulate’s care while further assistance and investigations are carried out.

The case came to light on June 13 after YY contacted the consulate and reported alleged physical abuse involving herself and two other Indonesian nationals, identified as YA and SH, who were working as domestic helpers in Johor.

According to information received by the consulate, the three women were allegedly subjected to repeated physical abuse by their employers while working in Malaysia.

The alleged incidents were said to have occurred between late 2025 and January 2026. Following the abuse, the women were reportedly abandoned by their employers in the Kampung Melayu Majidee area of Johor.

Wanting to continue working in Malaysia, the three women later went their separate ways. YA travelled to Kuala Lumpur, while YY and SH remained in Johor.

Investigations also revealed that all three women were working in the country without valid work permits. Their passports were allegedly being held by their employers, leaving them fearful of reporting the abuse to authorities.

Despite these concerns, YY eventually decided to seek help from the Indonesian Consulate, prompting immediate action.

Following the report, the KJRI worked closely with Malaysian police and lodged an official complaint regarding the alleged abuse.

The consulate later received confirmation that officers from the Johor Bahru North District Police Headquarters (IPD) had arrested four individuals suspected of being involved in the case on June 13.

The arrests followed reports that two married couples were detained to assist investigations into allegations of abusing domestic workers at a house in Taman Johor, Tampoi.

Police reportedly arrested the four suspects, aged between 30 and 34, at approximately 7.30pm on Friday. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
