A woman has come under fire on social media after allegedly mocking the body odour of local residents while travelling in China, with many netizens accusing her of being disrespectful and damaging Malaysia’s image abroad.
The controversy erupted after a video circulated online showing the woman and her companions reacting loudly to the smell of people around them while visiting public places.
According to social media users, the woman was not only heard making insulting remarks but was also accused of recording and uploading videos that showed the faces of several individuals without their consent.
The issue gained traction after a Threads user criticised the woman’s behaviour, claiming she openly mocked local residents in Malay while travelling in the country.
The post alleged that some of the individuals targeted included families with young children, elderly citizens and even e-hailing drivers.
Many netizens described the behaviour as rude, unnecessary and insensitive, arguing that travellers should show respect for the people and cultures of the countries they visit.
Several social media users pointed out that if the woman felt uncomfortable, she could have quietly covered her nose instead of drawing attention to others in a way that could embarrass or humiliate them.
One commenter remarked that the most embarrassing aspect of the incident was not the issue of body odour, but rather the way the woman chose to react in public.
“Travelling should make us more open-minded, not more judgemental. She thought she was exposing other people’s behaviour, but the video ended up revealing more about her own character,” one user wrote.
