Two men were killed while two others sustained injuries after the car they were travelling in collided with a three-tonne lorry near the Road Transport Department (JPJ) office in Benta, Kuala Lipis, on Tuesday night.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations and rescue, Mohd Salahuddin Isa, said the department received an emergency call regarding the accident at 9.03pm.
A team of eight firefighters from the Kuala Lipis Fire and Rescue Station was immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that one of the four men travelling in a Perodua Axia had managed to escape from the vehicle on his own, while the remaining three occupants were trapped inside.
“The rescue team successfully extricated the trapped victims. However, two men were pronounced dead at the scene by Ministry of Health personnel,” he said in a statement.
Mohd Salahuddin said the bodies were handed over to the police for further action, while the two injured victims were transported to Hospital Kuala Lipis for treatment.
He added that the lorry driver and a female passenger travelling in the vehicle escaped the crash without any injuries.
