The General Operations Force (GOF) seized 1,600 saplings of various species along with a Hicom lorry, with the total value of the seizure estimated at RM310,000, during a roadblock operation at Lalang Pepuyu near Tanah Merah on Monday.
The operation, carried out by Battalion 8 GOF under Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan at about 12.30pm, also resulted in the arrest of two men aged 62 and 23, who were believed to be the lorry driver and attendant.
Southeast Brigade GOF commander Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the operation team stopped a Hicom lorry after finding its movements suspicious.
“An inspection of the vehicle uncovered 1,600 saplings comprising 200 honey guava trees, 200 guava trees, 200 Brazilian grape trees, 200 kundang trees, 200 lychee trees, 200 pomelo trees, 200 lime trees and 200 asam gelugur trees.
“The estimated value of the saplings is RM160,000,” he said.
The two suspects were detained under Section 28A of the Criminal Procedure Code for further investigation.
All seized saplings were confiscated and transported to Komtak Taman Bakti for further action by the relevant authorities.
