Four individuals comprising two married couples have been re-arrested in the early hours of the morning to assist investigations into a viral video showing a domestic helper being assaulted.
The suspects, aged between 30 and 34, were detained at about 1.30am after two foreign women, believed to be former domestic workers of the suspects, lodged police reports yesterday.
The two victims, who had earlier been sought by police in connection with the viral footage, were brought from Kuala Lumpur by the Indonesian Embassy to lodge reports at the Johor Bahru South and Johor Bahru North district police headquarters.
A lawyer representing the Indonesian Embassy, Mohd Daud Ismail, said he was present at the Johor Bahru Court as an observing counsel during the remand application process involving all suspects.
Magistrate Chai Ing Hien granted a four-day remand order effective today to facilitate investigations under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 506 for criminal intimidation.
On June 14, Johor Police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad was reported as saying that the two couples were initially detained to assist investigations into the viral video involving the assault of a foreign domestic worker at a residence in Johor.
He said the footage, which circulated on social media, showed a female victim being assaulted by two men and two women, believed to have taken place at a house in Taman Johor, Tampoi.
Police also seized mobile phones, clothing belonging to the suspects, a CCTV unit and two passports belonging to the foreign domestic workers linked to one of the couples.
Ab Rahaman said initial investigations indicated the incident occurred last year, although the video only went viral on June 13.
