A 68-year-old retired public university lecturer was killed after losing control of his car and crashing into a wall along Jalan Pahlawan on Thursday.
The victim, Mak Kem Seng, was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to a private hospital for emergency treatment.
Kuala Muda District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said police received a report regarding the single-vehicle accident at approximately 4.05pm.
Preliminary investigations found that the victim had been driving a Proton Wira from Jalan Lagenda Utama towards Jalan Badlishah before the incident occurred.
“Upon reaching the location, the vehicle suddenly went out of control, skidded to the right side of the road and crashed into the entrance wall of the Kuala Muda Welfare Complex,” he said in a statement.
The victim was found unconscious at the scene and was rushed to a nearby private hospital by ambulance.
Despite efforts to save him, he was later pronounced dead while receiving treatment.
Police have classified the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which relates to causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Hanyan said the victim’s body was sent to the Forensic Unit of Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the damaged vehicle has been taken to the Kuala Muda Traffic Police Station and will undergo inspection by Puspakom as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities are continuing efforts to determine the exact cause of the accident.
