Over 200 Houses Affected By Heavy Rain And Strong Winds In Ipoh

Date:

More than 200 houses were damaged after a powerful storm accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds swept through several areas in Bercham, Ipoh, on Friday afternoon.

The incident, which occurred at about 3.40pm, was triggered by nearly two hours of continuous heavy rainfall and strong gusts that left a trail of destruction across multiple residential neighbourhoods.

Among the affected locations were Hala Tasek Timur 1, Lorong Bercham 19, Dataran Tasek Timur, Lintasan Tasek Timur 1 and 3, Hala Tasek Timur 34, and Laluan Tasek Timur 15.

Most of the affected homes suffered damage to roofing structures, leaking ceilings and other parts of the buildings. Despite the extent of the damage, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

According to the Kinta District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), numerous trees and electricity poles were also brought down by the storm, affecting roads and residential areas.

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) temporarily disconnected electricity supply in several affected locations as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety during recovery operations.

The Ipoh City Council (MBI) was also deployed to assist with clean-up efforts, including the removal of fallen trees and debris scattered across the impacted areas.

Authorities said a temporary evacuation centre (PPS) remains on standby should there be a need to accommodate affected residents.

Clean-up and restoration works are continuing, with relevant agencies closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents affected by the severe weather.
