A Thai family was left stunned after discovering a hidden fortune of 1.84 million baht (approximately RM230,000) belonging to a deceased elderly man inside a toolbox following his death.
According to Thairath, the late In Saendong, 78, was widely known for living frugally and often told relatives that he had no savings.
His widow, 74-year-old Daeng Senadong, said she was completely unaware of the existence of such a large sum as she had never been involved in her husband’s financial matters.
The money is believed to have been accumulated over many years, including earnings from family inheritance as well as the sale of cattle and buffalo.
The discovery was made while the family was preparing funds for funeral arrangements after In passed away on June 13 due to health complications.
Alongside the cash, the family also found a gold necklace weighing around 15 grams stored inside the same box.
Daeng described her late husband as a disciplined and frugal man who served as a good example for their children and grandchildren in financial management.
