Police have arrested four men believed to be involved in a violent brawl at a restaurant in Taman Manis after footage of the incident went viral on social media.
The fight, which reportedly took place at about 1.50am, was captured in a 58-second video showing several individuals attacking each other with chairs inside the eatery.
Kulai Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee said preliminary investigations revealed that the incident began as an argument before escalating into a physical confrontation.
The clash was eventually brought under control after members of the public intervened to break up the fight.
Following investigations, police launched an operation and arrested four suspects aged between 20 and 46 at separate locations between 6pm and 9pm on the same day.
Background checks found that two of the suspects have previous drug-related records. However, all four tested negative for drugs after being detained.
Tan said investigators believe the altercation may have been triggered by a debt collection dispute, although the exact motive remains under investigation.
Police have not ruled out the possibility of making further arrests as investigations continue.
The four suspects have been remanded for four days until June 25 to assist in investigations under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting while armed with weapons.
If convicted, the offence carries a penalty of up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
Police urged members of the public to refrain from taking matters into their own hands and to seek legal channels when resolving disputes.
