Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor has expressed appreciation on behalf of the state government following a RM500,000 donation from His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, for victims of recent fire disasters in Kudat and Sandakan.
The contribution was presented by Sultan Ibrahim’s Foundation trustee Tan Sri Avinderjit Singh to Hajiji, in the presence of the King during an official ceremony held today.
Hajiji described the donation as a clear reflection of the Agong’s concern and compassion for Sabah residents affected by the devastating incidents.
He said the state government deeply appreciated the support, particularly for victims of the fire at Kampung Gumpa in Kudat and the large-scale blaze at Kampung Bahagia in Sandakan.
He added that the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) would continue to strengthen coordination efforts in providing welfare assistance, managing temporary relief centres, and ensuring the wellbeing of affected families remains a priority.
On April 16, eight houses were destroyed in a fire at Kampung Gumpa, affecting 67 residents, while a major blaze on April 18, 2026, in Kampung Bahagia, Sandakan destroyed 1,050 homes and impacted 914 heads of households.
State leaders and officials present at the event included senior government representatives and district officers from Kudat and Sandakan.
