Police Pursuit Ends In Death After Suspect Leaps Off Flyover

Date:

A man was killed after he is believed to have jumped from a flyover while attempting to escape police arrest during a vehicle pursuit involving three suspects in Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur yesterday afternoon.

Two of his accomplices were arrested after the trio refused to stop their vehicle when ordered by police during routine crime prevention patrols carried out by the Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) unit.

Petaling Jaya District Police Deputy Chief Superintendant M Hussin Sollehuddin Zolkifly said officers managed to intercept the vehicle at Pantai Sentral, where two local men in their 30s were detained to assist investigations.

He said during the incident, the third suspect attempted to flee by jumping from a flyover, resulting in severe injuries. The man was later confirmed dead.

Police later discovered several items inside the vehicle believed to be linked to theft-related activities and drug abuse.

Checks also revealed that both detained suspects had prior criminal and drug-related records, while one of them was wanted by police in connection with a drug offence.

One suspect has been remanded for five days until June 29, while another has been remanded for two days until tomorrow to facilitate investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants in discharge of duties, Section 279 for reckless and dangerous driving, and Section 307 for attempted murder.

Authorities expressed appreciation to members of the public who cooperated during the incident and reminded road users to comply with police instructions to avoid dangerous situations.

Police also urged the public not to speculate on the case as investigations are still ongoing, adding that those with information can contact the investigating officer or the Petaling Jaya police headquarters operations room.
