Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning as heavy rain is expected to hit several areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah until 5pm today.
In a statement, MetMalaysia said in the Peninsular, affected areas include Cameron Highlands, Bera and Rompin in Pahang, as well as Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor in Selangor.
Heavy rain is also expected in Negeri Sembilan covering Jelebu, Kuala Pilah, Jempol and Tampin, and in Johor involving Segamat, Kluang, Mersing and Kota Tinggi.
In Sarawak, severe weather is forecast for Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi) and Limbang, while in Sabah, the warning covers interior areas including Keningau and Tambunan, as well as the west coast and Sandakan (Kinabatangan).
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are expected or already occurring and may last more than an hour.
It added that the alert is a short-term warning, valid for no more than six hours per issuance.
