Squid Fishing Trip Ends In Tragedy As Man Collapses And Dies

Date:

A squid fishing trip ended in tragedy after a 59-year-old man died while aboard a boat in the waters off Besut during the early hours of Saturday.

The victim, who was from Jerangau, Dungun, reportedly collapsed suddenly at about 1.16am while taking part in the fishing activity with several companions.

Besut district police chief Superintendent Mohd Rozaime Ab Rahim said the victim’s friends immediately attempted to perform emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but their efforts were unsuccessful.

He said the victim was then brought to the Kampung Tanjung Lali jetty near Kampung Raja, where a medical officer later confirmed his death.

A post-mortem conducted at Hospital Besut later determined that the man had died from a heart attack. Sudden medical emergencies can occur without warning, highlighting the importance of immediate emergency response during outdoor and marine activities.

Mohd Rozaime added that the case has been classified as a sudden death, with no elements of foul play reported in the incident.
