Umno members and leaders in Johor have been urged to move past any disappointment over being left out of candidate selections for the upcoming state election, with party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi calling for unity and focus on electoral victory.
Zahid said the party must now concentrate on strengthening its machinery to ensure Barisan Nasional (BN) retains control of Johor and continues its long-standing position in the state. He stressed that internal dissatisfaction should not distract from broader campaign efforts.
He acknowledged that some members were unhappy after not being selected or retained as candidates, but described the situation as part of political reality and individual fate within the party process.
Zahid also clarified that candidate selection decisions were made without external interference, adding that he had left the final list to the discretion of the menteri besar and divisional leadership.
He advised those who were not chosen to remain patient, suggesting that future opportunities could still arise depending on timing and circumstances.
In a broader sense, he emphasised that political journeys often involve setbacks, and perseverance remains important for long-term involvement in party leadership and elections.
He further stated that Umno’s strength lies in the loyalty and unity of its grassroots members and leaders, which he described as crucial in maintaining momentum ahead of polling day.
