Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has introduced the Semak Kasih portal, a new online platform designed to help Malaysians check for unclaimed insurance policies and takaful certificates left behind by deceased family members.
The portal enables beneficiaries to search for death benefits that may have gone unclaimed, making it easier for families to access financial assistance they may not have known they were entitled to.
Developed jointly by the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) and the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM), the platform serves as a centralised search system, eliminating the need for users to contact insurance companies and takaful operators individually.
According to industry data, around 50,000 insurance policies and takaful certificates involving death benefits remain unclaimed in Malaysia due to beneficiaries being unaware of their existence.
The Semak Kasih portal uses digital data matching to simplify the search process. Users only need to register an account and provide the required information to check whether any unclaimed benefits are linked to their deceased relatives.
The initiative forms part of Bank Negara’s broader efforts to strengthen financial protection and improve access to financial services, particularly for Malaysians facing economic challenges.
The launch of the portal coincides with several other financial initiatives announced by the central bank, including microfinancing facilities for small businesses offering loans of up to RM100,000 without the need for guarantors or collateral.
In addition, Bank Negara has allocated RM5 billion under the SME Stabilisation Relief Facility to support businesses affected by external economic pressures.
How To Use The Semak Kasih Portal
To search for unclaimed insurance or takaful benefits, users can follow these steps:
- Visit the official Semak Kasih website using a computer or mobile device.
- Register an account by providing your name, identification number, email address and phone number.
- Enter the name and identification number of your deceased family member.
- Upload a clear copy or scanned image of the official death certificate.
- Submit the application and wait for the system to determine whether any unclaimed insurance or takaful benefits are available.
The new portal is expected to make it easier for families to identify and claim financial benefits that might otherwise remain undiscovered, providing a more efficient and accessible way to manage unclaimed insurance and takaful payouts.
