Grab Rider Crashes Into Car, Then Rides Away? Viral MRR2 Video Sparks Debate

Date:

A video of an alleged hit-and-run involving a Grab rider on the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) has gone viral on social media, sparking debate after the motorcyclist was seen leaving the scene moments after the crash.

According to the car owner, the incident occurred at about 6.11pm on June 29. In a post on Threads, she claimed her vehicle was struck from behind by a Grab motorcycle while she was driving along the highway.

She said she pulled over to the roadside immediately after the collision as it happened in the middle of the highway. However, she alleged that the rider rode away without stopping to exchange details or discuss the accident.

The dashcam footage shared online appears to show the Grab rider travelling behind the car before attempting to change lanes. During the manoeuvre, the rider appeared to lose control of the motorcycle, which then struck the rear of the vehicle before flipping onto the road.

The video shows the rider getting up slowly after the fall, collecting several items that had scattered onto the road and eventually riding away from the scene. Meanwhile, the car owner is seen pulling over before stepping out to inspect the damage to her vehicle.

Expressing her frustration in the post, the car owner called on Grab Malaysia to take action against the rider.

“Driving straight, my car was smashed from the rear by a Grab bike. I pulled over since it happened in the middle of the highway, but the rider ran away without stopping. This is unacceptable. Your riders must be held accountable when accidents happen. I demand action,” she wrote.

Grab Malaysia later responded to the post, saying it was unable to identify the rider based on the registration number provided.

“Hi. We’re sorry to inform you that we’re unable to locate the plate number in our system. Could you please let us know if you have a clearer image of the plate number? We’ll be happy to check again,” the company replied.

As of the time of writing, it is unclear whether a police report has been lodged or whether any official investigation has been initiated. The identity of the rider has also not been confirmed.
