‘Petrol Pump Wouldn’t Stop!’ Woman’s Viral Claim Backfires As Netizens Blame Her Instead

Date:

A woman’s complaint about an alleged malfunctioning petrol pump has gone viral on social media, but instead of receiving sympathy, she found herself facing criticism from fellow netizens.

In a video shared on Threads, petrol can be seen overflowing from her vehicle’s fuel tank and spilling onto the ground at a petrol station, creating what many described as a dangerous situation.

The woman claimed the fuel nozzle failed to stop automatically once the tank was full, causing petrol to continue flowing onto the forecourt.

“Look, I’m refuelling and the pump won’t stop automatically. Now there’s petrol all over the ground,” she wrote in the caption, expressing her frustration.

However, many social media users were unconvinced by her explanation, arguing that drivers are responsible for monitoring the refuelling process instead of relying solely on the automatic shut-off mechanism.

Some questioned why she chose to record the incident instead of immediately seeking help from petrol station staff.

“Why didn’t you just ask the staff for help instead of filming a video?” one user commented.

Others suggested the amount of petrol seen on the ground indicated that the overflow had continued for quite some time before any action was taken.

“It spilled that much before you noticed? You had plenty of time to stop it,” another user wrote.

Several commenters also pointed out that most petrol stations are equipped with emergency stop buttons that can immediately shut down the pumps in the event of a fuel spill.

“There’s an emergency button there. Why didn’t you press it instead of recording a video?” another netizen asked.

Some comments were more sarcastic, with one user joking that the woman was trying to use up her monthly subsidised fuel allocation before it expired, while others questioned whether it was her first time refuelling a vehicle.

As of the time of writing, it remains unclear which petrol station the incident occurred at or whether the pump had actually malfunctioned. No official statement has been issued by the petrol station operator, and the exact cause of the fuel spill has yet to be confirmed.
