More Than 123,000 B40 Malaysians Received RM108 Million Through mySalam By May

Date:

More than 123,800 Malaysians from the B40 income group have benefited from the government’s mySalam Social Health Protection Scheme, with RM108 million in claims paid out as of May this year.

Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the figures show that the free health protection scheme continues to provide vital financial assistance to low-income Malaysians facing serious health conditions and critical illnesses.

Speaking during Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday, Amir Hamzah said 123,800 beneficiaries had received claim payments amounting to RM108 million by the end of May.

He added that 298,126 individuals received benefits worth RM276 million in 2025, compared with 190,725 beneficiaries in 2024.

Since its launch in 2019 until December 2025, a total of 1,880,069 people have benefited from the scheme, with cumulative claims reaching RM1.42 billion.

Based on the current eligibility criteria for this year’s Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR), about 9.15 million STR recipients qualify for coverage under mySalam.

Amir Hamzah was responding to a question from Datuk Awang Hashim (PN–Pendang), who asked about the effectiveness of the scheme in helping B40 households obtain health protection, particularly for critical illnesses and hospitalisation costs.

He said the scheme remains financially sustainable, noting that it had a remaining fund balance of RM490.9 million at the end of last year.

According to Amir Hamzah, the available funds demonstrate that mySalam continues to play an effective role in easing the financial burden faced by low-income families affected by health problems.

The scheme provides financial assistance for 50 listed critical illnesses, including cancer, kidney disease and heart disease.

Originally introduced as a five-year initiative from 2019 to 2023, mySalam was later extended until 2026 under the 2024 and 2026 federal budgets as part of the government’s continued commitment to supporting vulnerable Malaysians.

The mySalam scheme was launched in 2019 with an initial RM2 billion contribution from Great Eastern Holdings Limited (GEHL).

It offers free takaful protection to eligible government cash aid recipients aged between 18 and 65, as well as their spouses.
