Five Things You Need To Know About Norway Goal Machine Erling Haaland

Date:

Erling Haaland has once again become one of the biggest attractions at the FIFA World Cup 2026, with the prolific Norwegian striker continuing to light up the tournament through his remarkable goal-scoring exploits. As Norway’s main attacking threat, the 25-year-old has firmly established himself among the world’s elite forwards.

A Record-Breaking Goal Scorer

Haaland has built a reputation as one of football’s deadliest finishers. Standing at 6ft 5in, he combines exceptional physical strength with explosive pace, making him a nightmare for defenders. Since joining Manchester City in 2022, he has shattered numerous records, including scoring a Premier League-record 36 goals in a single season before ending the 2022-23 campaign with an incredible 52 goals across all competitions.

His eye for goal first captured global attention during the 2019 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, where he scored an astonishing nine goals in Norway’s 12-0 demolition of Honduras.

A Social Media Favourite

Away from football, Haaland has become just as popular for his entertaining social media presence. He frequently shares behind-the-scenes moments with fans through Snapchat, offering glimpses into his daily life, training routines and humorous moments.

His relaxed personality and willingness to interact with supporters have made him one of football’s most followed and engaging stars online.

Norway’s Greatest Goal Scorer

Despite being only 25 years old, Haaland has already rewritten Norway’s football history. In 2024, he became the country’s all-time leading international scorer, surpassing the long-standing record held by Jørgen Juve since 1937.

The Manchester City striker has now amassed 59 goals for Norway, while Juve remains second on the list with 33 goals, underlining just how dominant Haaland has become on the international stage.

Sport Runs In The Family

Athletic success is part of Haaland’s family heritage. His father, Alfie Haaland, enjoyed a lengthy professional football career and represented several English clubs, including Manchester City, while his mother, Gry Marita Braut, competed as a heptathlete in Norway during the 1990s.

When representing Norway, Haaland proudly wears both family names — “Braut” and “Haaland” — on the back of his national team shirt as a tribute to his parents.

His Partner Shares His Football Roots

Haaland is in a relationship with Isabel Haugseng Johansen, who also played football during her younger years for Norwegian club Bryne FK — the same club where Haaland developed his own career.

The couple reportedly welcomed their first child in 2024, with Johansen regularly seen supporting Haaland from the stands during Norway’s matches, including at this year’s FIFA World Cup in the United States.
