Mbappé Nets Brace As France Cruise Into World Cup Last 16

Date:

Kylian Mbappé continued his outstanding FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign after scoring twice to inspire France to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Sweden, securing Les Bleus’ place in the Round of 16.

The French superstar found the net once in each half, taking his tournament tally to six goals and drawing level with Lionel Messi in the race for the prestigious Golden Boot award. Mbappé once again proved to be France’s biggest attacking weapon as his clinical finishing kept the reigning European giants firmly on course for World Cup glory.

Bradley Barcola added France’s third goal in the 53rd minute to put the result beyond doubt, as Didier Deschamps’ side dominated proceedings against the Swedish outfit.

France will now face Paraguay in the Round of 16 after the South American nation pulled off one of the tournament’s biggest upsets by eliminating four-time world champions Germany in a dramatic penalty shootout.

The highly anticipated clash between France and Paraguay is scheduled to kick off at 5am on Sunday, with Mbappé expected to spearhead France’s bid for a place in the quarter-finals.

In another Round of 32 fixture, Norway also booked their place in the last 16 after edging Ivory Coast 2-1, with Erling Haaland once again emerging as the match winner.
