A man who raped and sexually abused his stepdaughter has been sentenced by the Sessions Court to a total of 68 years’ imprisonment and 10 strokes of the cane.
Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan handed down the sentence after finding the unrepresented accused guilty on three counts of rape and two counts of sexual abuse involving the underaged victim.
The court ordered the jail terms for the first to fourth charges to run concurrently from the date of arrest, while the fifth charge was ordered to run consecutively, resulting in a total imprisonment term of 32 years.
In addition, the court directed that the offender undergo rehabilitative counselling while serving his sentence and be placed under police supervision for three years upon release.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Bryan Francis led the prosecution, during which six witnesses were called by the prosecution and two by the defence.
The court noted the severity of the offences, which involved repeated sexual crimes against a minor under the man’s care.
The sentence reflects the judiciary’s firm stance on crimes involving sexual abuse of children, which are treated with the highest level of seriousness under Malaysian law.
