A 18-year-old vocational college student was killed after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car at Kilometre 32.2 of Jalan Seremban–Tampin near the Simpang Penajis–Chengkau junction earlier this morning.
In the 7.55am incident, the victim, Muhammad Haziq Afiq Mohd Shahril, a first-semester Diploma in Ruminant Agro Industry student at Kolej Vokasional Dato’ Lela Maharaja, was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe bodily injuries.
Rembau Acting District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Azmi Ali, said the crash involved a Yamaha LC motorcycle ridden by the victim and a Honda City driven by a 49-year-old female teacher.
He said the victim was travelling from Tampin towards Rembau while the car was coming from the opposite direction before turning into the Simpang Penajis–Chengkau junction.
According to preliminary investigations, the motorcyclist, who was travelling in the left lane, was unable to avoid the vehicle as the driver allegedly turned right into the junction, resulting in a collision.
The impact caused the student to die at the scene, while the driver and one passenger in the car sustained injuries. Two other passengers seated at the rear were unhurt.
Police believe the accident was caused by the driver’s alleged negligence while making the turn into the junction. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
