Albert Tei Hints At Negeri Sembilan State Election Bid

Date:

Businessman Albert Tei has not ruled out the possibility of contesting in the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election on August 1, saying he is currently considering an offer to stand as a candidate.

Tei, 37, whose full name is Tei Jiaan Cheing, said the decision is close to being finalised after receiving an offer from a political party, although he declined to reveal which party was involved.

He said he is still evaluating the proposal but admitted that it is “almost certain” he will make an announcement next week regarding his political future.

Tei also claimed that support from friends and social media followers has encouraged him to take part in the election, adding that he may formally announce his decision soon.

He said he intends to contest the Chennah state seat, currently held by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook, citing dissatisfaction with the performance of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and DAP-led leadership.

Tei, who has never been a member of any political party, said his involvement in politics so far has been purely in a personal capacity.

He added that the Negeri Sembilan state election could mark his first formal entry into politics.

Media reports previously stated that Anthony Loke is expected to defend the Chennah seat in the upcoming election.

In past elections, Loke has retained the seat with comfortable majorities, including victories in both the 2013 general election and the 2023 state election.
