Teacher, Three Students Injured After Car Crashes Into Lorry Returning From State Table Tennis Meet

Date:

A teacher and three secondary school students were injured after the car they were travelling in collided with a lorry at Solok Duku, Masjid Tanah, while returning home from a state-level table tennis tournament on Wednesday afternoon.

The accident occurred at around 3.24pm and involved a Proton Saga carrying the group. A 24-year-old teacher and a 16-year-old student suffered serious injuries after becoming trapped inside the wrecked vehicle. Rescue personnel later extricated both victims from the mangled car.

The two other students, aged 15 and 16, sustained a fractured leg and impact-related injuries respectively. Members of the public rushed to assist and managed to remove them from the vehicle before emergency responders arrived. The incident serves as another reminder of the dangers motorists face on Malaysian roads, particularly during long journeys following school activities.

Zone 2 Chief of the Melaka Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Zulkhairani Ramli, said firefighters received an emergency call at 3.24pm regarding the collision between the Proton Saga and a lorry. While all four occupants of the car were injured, the 46-year-old lorry driver escaped the crash unhurt.

He said firefighters successfully rescued the two trapped victims before handing all four casualties over to the Ministry of Health (MOH) for further medical treatment. The rescue operation involved six firefighters from the Masjid Tanah Fire and Rescue Station and concluded at 4.38pm after crews ensured the scene was safe.

In a shocking development, Zulkhairani revealed that the rescue operation was marred by the actions of an irresponsible individual who allegedly attempted to take cash and personal belongings belonging to the injured teacher. Fortunately, firefighters acted swiftly to stop the attempt, and all of the victim’s personal belongings were subsequently handed over to the police for further action.

The incident has drawn attention not only because of the serious injuries suffered by the victims, but also due to the alleged misconduct at the accident scene. Authorities are expected to continue their investigations into both the crash and the reported attempt to steal the victim’s belongings.
