A lorry transporting oil palm fruits was severely damaged after its cabin caught fire in Sungai Aping, Selangau.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from the Selangau Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call at 12.30am before arriving at the location about 11 minutes later.
According to Bomba, the blaze completely destroyed the lorry’s cab, while the load of oil palm fruits remained unaffected.
The driver managed to escape from the vehicle safely before firefighters reached the scene, and no injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident.
A team of seven firefighters used a first-aid hose line connected to the fire engine’s pump to put out the flames. The operation was brought under control at 12.55am.
Firefighters completed the operation at 1.15am after conducting checks to ensure the area was safe and there were no further risks.
The cause of the fire and the estimated amount of damage are still under investigation.
