Soap Factory Raided Over Alleged Unauthorised Halal Logo Use

Date:

A soap processing factory in Seri Kembangan was raided by the Selangor branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) for allegedly using an unauthorised halal logo on its products for commercial purposes.

Selangor KPDN director Muhamad Hanif Asa’ari said the integrated operation began at 11.25am yesterday with the cooperation of the Intelligence and Special Operations Division and the Immigration Department (JIM) Putrajaya.

He said inspections found that the factory was selling cleaning soap products online and was believed to have used a halal logo that had not been approved by the relevant authorities.

During the raid, KPDN Selangor seized 31,140 units of cleaning soap, 40,000 packaging materials and several documents suspected of containing the unauthorised halal logo.

Hanif said the total value of the seized items was estimated at RM215,700.

He added that five foreign workers and a local company director were inspected during the operation to assist with investigations, while the foreign workers were handed over to JIM for further action.

The operation was carried out following public complaints regarding the alleged misuse of a halal logo on products distributed by the company.

The case is being investigated under subparagraph 8(b) of the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order 2011, under the Trade Descriptions Act 2011.
