168g Of Suspected Drugs Seized In Penampang Raids, Three Detained

Date:

Police have dismantled two suspected drug distribution operations following separate raids carried out in Penampang, Sabah, on Friday.

The operations conducted by the Penampang District Police Headquarters (IPD) Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND) led to the arrest of three men, including a foreign national, with drugs weighing a total of 168.39 grams seized.

Acting Penampang district police chief Assistant Superintendent Arisanti Aziz said the first raid was conducted at around 2pm at a housing area along Jalan Bundusan.

She said a 28-year-old foreign man was arrested after police found 83.83 grams of suspected ecstasy powder and 1.42 grams of ketamine during an inspection.

“Following the arrest, police carried out further intelligence work before raiding a condominium in the district at about 3.40pm.

“In the second operation, two local men, both aged 22, were arrested after police discovered 81.39 grams of suspected ecstasy powder and 1.75 grams of ketamine,” she said in a statement.

Arisanti said the overall seizure involved 165.22 grams of suspected ecstasy powder and 3.17 grams of ketamine.

She added that police also seized several vehicles and mobile phones believed to be linked to the suspected drug distribution activities.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

She said those convicted under the provision could face the death penalty, life imprisonment, or imprisonment of up to 30 years, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of whipping.

Arisanti also reminded the public to stay away from drug abuse and distribution activities, urging anyone with information on such offences to contact the police to assist ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes.
