Driver Killed After Car Loses Control, Hits Motorcycle And Tree Stump

A man was killed after the car he was driving lost control, crashed into a parked motorcycle by the roadside and hit a tree stump at Jalan Mengabang Lekar, Kuala Nerus, early this morning.

Kuala Terengganu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said police received information about the accident involving a Proton Saga and a Honda EX5 motorcycle at around 3.55am.

He said initial investigations found that the Proton Saga was travelling from Merang, Setiu, towards Kampung Maras, while the motorcycle was heading from Kuala Terengganu town towards Mengabang Lekar.

According to him, the car was believed to have lost control upon reaching the location before colliding with the motorcycle that was parked on the left side of the road.

“The vehicle then skidded, crashed into a tree stump and overturned.

“The driver of the Proton Saga, Che Mohd Hquzai Ali, 39, from Kampung Maras, Batu Rakit, suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said in a statement.

Azli said the accident also left a 45-year-old front passenger with minor facial injuries, while another passenger, aged 28, who was seated at the back of the vehicle, was not injured.

He added that the 18-year-old motorcycle rider also suffered minor injuries and was taken to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) for further treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
