Voter turnout for the Johor state election reached 26.43 per cent as of 11am, according to the Election Commission (EC).
The EC said Tanjung Surat recorded the highest turnout so far at 34.4 per cent, followed by Rengit at 33.6 per cent and Semarang at 33.2 per cent.
Meanwhile, the lowest turnout was recorded in Penggaram at 19.6 per cent, followed by Bentayan at 19.9 per cent and Maharani at 21.9 per cent.
The turnout recorded at 11am was higher compared with the Johor state election in 2022, which stood at 21.33 per cent during the same period.
All polling centres across the 56 state constituencies are scheduled to close by 6pm today, before vote counting begins.
The EC had earlier estimated voter turnout for the election to reach around 70 per cent, citing strong public interest throughout the campaign period and increased enthusiasm among voters.
The 2022 Johor state election recorded a turnout of 54.9 per cent, which was the lowest for a state election in recent years.
A total of 2.73 million registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots in this election, which was called following the dissolution of the Johor State Legislative Assembly on June 1.
The dissolution came ahead of the assembly’s automatic expiry in April next year after discussions on an early election gained momentum following several political developments and claims over potential contested seats.
In the 2022 Johor state election, Barisan Nasional (BN) formed the state government after winning 40 out of 56 seats, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) secured 12 seats, Perikatan Nasional (PN) won three seats, and Muda took one seat.
