PM Anwar Congratulates BN On Johor Election Victory

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated Barisan Nasional (BN) on its victory in the 16th Johor State Election after the coalition successfully retained control of the state government.

Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, expressed hope that the mandate given by the people would be carried out responsibly and in the best interests of Johor and its residents.

He also extended his appreciation to Johor voters for fulfilling their democratic responsibility, as well as to all election workers and campaign machinery who worked tirelessly throughout the state polls.

Anwar said all PH candidates, regardless of whether they won or lost, should continue serving the people and remain committed to representing the voices of their respective communities.

He added that the Federal Government remains committed to strengthening development initiatives and improving the well-being of the people of Johor.

BN officially secured its return to power after winning a simple majority in the state election.

Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said that as of 10.32pm, BN had won 29 Johor State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats, enough to form the state government with a simple majority.

Earlier, the EC had set July 7 as the date for early voting, while polling for the state election took place on July 11.

A total of 2,727,926 voters were eligible to cast their ballots, comprising 2,703,175 ordinary voters, 12,041 military personnel and their spouses, and 12,710 police personnel and their spouses.
