A 45-year-old man is feared to have drowned after he allegedly fell into the Melaka River near Yayasan Toh Puan Zurina at midnight.
The victim was reported missing after he fell into the river, prompting members of the public to contact the emergency line 999 for assistance.
Melaka Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Public Relations Officer Deputy Superintendent of Fire II Mohammad Hafidzatullah Rashid said his department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 12.03am.
He said a team from the Melaka Tengah Fire and Rescue Station, led by Operations Commander Senior Fire Officer I Nor Adika Hasan, was immediately dispatched to the location to begin the rescue mission.
“Upon arrival, the operations commander confirmed that a man was believed to have fallen into the river, and a search and rescue (SAR) operation was immediately launched around the area.
“The search operation is currently ongoing to locate the victim,” he said.
Mohammad Hafidzatullah added that the operation involved seven firefighters, a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicle, as well as assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
The SAR operation remains underway, with further updates to be provided once available.
