A 40-year-old woman was killed after the high-powered motorcycle she was riding crashed into a road divider along Jalan Jambatan Kuala Ibai here on Saturday evening.
The victim, who worked in the human resources sector, was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries sustained in the accident, which occurred at around 6.15pm.
Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said preliminary investigations found that the victim was riding an Aprilia motorcycle from Gong Badak towards a homestay in Dungun.
He said the motorcycle was believed to have lost control while navigating a bend before crashing into the road divider in the middle of the road.
“Following the impact, the victim was thrown onto the road and suffered serious injuries before being confirmed dead at the scene,” he said.
The victim, who was from Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, Sepang, was believed to have travelled to Terengganu with her husband on separate motorcycles to participate in the Super Bike Fighter event, which began on Saturday and was scheduled to run for two days.
Azli said the victim’s body was sent to the Forensic Unit of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) for a post-mortem examination.
He added that the motorcycle involved had been sent to PUSPAKOM for further inspection, while the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
