Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming declined to comment directly when repeatedly questioned about his previous pledge to resign if Barisan Nasional (BN) won the Johor state election and former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was released.
Instead, the DAP deputy chairman said his current focus remained on carrying out his responsibilities and serving the people.
“My heart is always with the people. I understand their struggles and difficulties. When I come to help through programmes like this, let us avoid focusing on other issues,” he said.
Nga said he understood that journalists had their responsibilities but stressed that he too had duties to fulfil as a government leader.
“I know where you are coming from and you have a job to do, but I also have my responsibilities. Let us work for the people and the country, and focus on public welfare,” he added.
He made the remarks after presenting financial assistance to victims affected by a storm in Bercham at a programme held in Kampung Bercham.
The statement came after reporters sought clarification on his earlier remarks regarding his resignation pledge following the Johor election outcome and developments involving Najib.
