Kancil Driver Killed After Car Crashes Into Reversing Lorry In Setiu

A 62-year-old man was killed after the Perodua Kancil he was driving crashed into a reversing lorry along the Kuala Terengganu-Kota Bharu Federal Road in Setiu early on Sunday morning.

The fatal accident occurred at about 6.20am at Kilometre 69 of the route. The victim, identified as Othman Abdullah from Kampung Guntong Luar, succumbed to chest injuries while receiving treatment at Setiu Hospital.

Setiu District Police Chief Superintendent Zahril Asri Mohd Zain said preliminary investigations found that the accident happened when a UDT lorry driven by a 32-year-old local man from Segamat, Johor, exited a junction onto the main road before reversing to park the vehicle.

While the lorry was reversing, the victim’s Perodua Kancil collided with the rear of the heavy vehicle. The impact left the elderly driver with severe injuries that later proved fatal.

The lorry driver escaped the incident without any injuries. Police have launched an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
