A male student from a public university has been arrested after allegedly stalking a female coursemate for three months in Shah Alam.
The suspect, believed to be in his 20s, was detained at around 8.30pm on Monday in the Section 7 area, less than five hours after the 22-year-old victim lodged a police report.
Shah Alam District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Sarudin Samah said police received the report at about 3.55pm.
According to him, the victim claimed she had been repeatedly harassed and followed by the same man since April, both on campus and near her residence.
“The suspect allegedly stalked and harassed the victim while she was at her place of study as well as around her home,” he said in a statement.
Following the report, police arrested the suspect, who is also a student at a public university. He has since been remanded for one day to assist with investigations.
Background checks found that the suspect has no prior criminal record and tested negative for drug use.
The case is being investigated under Section 507A of the Penal Code, which covers the offence of repeated stalking. Those found guilty face a penalty of up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
Police have urged anyone with information related to the case to contact investigating officer Inspector Sabryna Taha at 014-5130450.
The arrest came after a video circulated on Threads showing a man entering an apartment in Section 7 and allegedly taking a pair of shoes from inside the residence before smelling them, sparking widespread concern online.
