PAS has dismissed claims that it frequently changes its political stance, insisting that while its strategies may evolve, its core mission and objectives remain firmly intact.
PAS Information Chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the party has never shifted its ultimate goal, explaining that only its tactics, line-up and approach are adjusted whenever necessary to remain effective in the political arena.
Responding to criticism that PAS often “moves the goalposts”, the Pasir Mas MP used a football analogy to defend the party’s position.
“Some say PAS keeps changing the goalposts. The reality is that PAS has always been focused on scoring against the opposition’s goal and will never score an own goal,” he wrote in a Facebook post on Monday.
He added that just like in football, winning sometimes requires changes in strategy, players or even the coach, but the objective of the game never changes.
“As long as the 90 minutes haven’t ended, our mission to score against the opponent continues. PAS will never join the opposing team just to score an own goal,” he said.
Ahmad Fadhli also hinted that the party intends to prove its commitment during the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election, saying the “next league” in the state would demonstrate that PAS stands by its word.
His remarks came after UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi cautioned the public against being overly optimistic about PAS’ political statements, claiming the party could “move the goalposts” at any time.
Ahmad Zahid also said there had been no discussions between UMNO and PAS regarding any political strategy ahead of the Negeri Sembilan state election on 1 August, despite PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang previously confirming that talks were taking place between the two parties over possible political cooperation.
The exchange highlights the continuing war of words between the two parties as political attention turns towards the crucial state polls, with speculation over future alliances continuing to dominate the national political landscape.
