Hollywood superstar Mark Wahlberg has arrived in Penang to film his latest international movie project, with production expected to take place across several locations in the state over the next two weeks.
In a Facebook post on Monday, Penang Global Tourism, the state’s official tourism agency, said Penang continues to attract major international film productions thanks to its unique blend of heritage, culture and modern attractions.
“We are delighted to welcome Mark Wahlberg and the production team as they bring their latest film project to multiple locations across Penang,” the agency said, adding that the state’s diverse scenery makes it an increasingly popular destination for filmmakers from around the world.
From the UNESCO World Heritage Site of George Town to its rich cultural landmarks and natural landscapes, Penang offers a distinctive backdrop that continues to capture the attention of global film producers. The latest production is expected to further showcase the state’s appeal on the international stage.
Meanwhile, Penang Mayor Datuk A. Rajendran confirmed that filming began last Friday. Among the locations selected for the production are Lorong Kulit, City Stadium, Batu Kawan Stadium, and Padang Macallum.
The 54-year-old actor is understood to be filming Netflix’s upcoming feature The Big Fix, with local production coordination handled by Biscuit Films. Wahlberg stars alongside British actor Riz Ahmed, while the supporting cast includes Singaporean actor Chin Han, Indian actor Vipin Sharma, and Malaysian actress Nuha Jes Izman.
Wahlberg is one of Hollywood’s most recognisable stars, having built a successful career as an actor, producer and former rapper. He is best known for blockbuster hits including The Departed, The Fighter, Ted, Lone Survivor, Transformers: Age of Extinction and Uncharted.
