UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh has taken a swipe at DAP following reports that the party is prepared to withdraw from the Melaka state government if a proposed constitutional amendment introducing appointed state assembly members is passed.
In a sarcastic post on social media, Dr Akmal joked that such a move would be welcomed by the people of Melaka.
“Alhamdulillah, the prayers of the people of Melaka have been answered. Nga Kor Ming, when will your turn come?” he wrote, in an apparent jab at the DAP national vice-chairman.
His remarks came after reports emerged on Tuesday claiming that DAP Melaka was preparing to make a major political decision by pulling out of the Barisan Nasional (BN)-led state administration and relinquishing all positions held within the government.
According to a report by Malaysiakini, the move is said to be a protest against a proposed amendment to the Melaka State Constitution that would introduce appointed state assembly members (ADUN Lantikan).
The report also stated that DAP representatives were expected to make the announcement at the Melaka State Legislative Assembly after the state government proceeded with tabling the constitutional amendment during Tuesday’s sitting.
The proposed amendment has sparked political tensions in Melaka, with DAP previously expressing its opposition to the introduction of appointed assembly members.
