Police inspected 60 individuals and 51 vehicles during an integrated crime prevention operation in Song on Wednesday as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public safety and reduce criminal activities in the district.
Song district police chief DSP Benedict Faris Jimoy said the operation demonstrated the district police headquarters’ commitment to maintaining law and order through regular patrols, inspections and a visible police presence in public areas.
He said continuous enforcement activities not only help deter crime but also enhance public confidence while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the local community.
“Our presence on the ground is intended to prevent criminal activities, reassure the public and encourage residents to play an active role in keeping the district safe,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
The operation, which began at 9am, was led by the district Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division chief, Inspector Lucy Ronald Jubang, with the involvement of 18 police personnel from various units.
In addition to inspecting suspicious individuals and vehicles, officers conducted traffic enforcement, distributed crime prevention pamphlets and encouraged members of the public to register for the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application.
Police also briefed the public on the latest commercial crime and scam trends, advised business owners to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems to improve security at their premises, and shared information on the CCID Scam Response Centre hotline.
During the operation, four traffic summonses were issued, while four members of the public successfully registered as new users of the VSP application.
Benedict said the initiative received encouraging feedback from traders and residents, many of whom welcomed the programme and hoped similar operations would be carried out regularly to help preserve peace, security and public confidence in the district.
