Customer Demands Refund After Claiming Silver Bangles ‘Sounded Fake’ When Dropped On The Floor

Date:

A jewellery shop in Guiyang found itself at the centre of a heated dispute after a customer demanded a refund for a pair of silver bangles, claiming they were not genuine based on the sound they made when dropped on the floor.

The customer, identified only as the mother of a man surnamed Zhou, had purchased the silver bangles for 860 yuan. After taking them home, she and her family became convinced the jewellery had been mixed with other materials and returned to the shop to confront the owner.

According to the shop owner, the woman entered the store visibly upset, accusing the business of selling counterfeit products and creating a disturbance.

The customer allegedly demanded an immediate refund, accusing the shop of cheating her out of 860 yuan. She also reportedly threatened to remain at the premises until her money was returned.

The shop owner firmly rejected the allegations, insisting the silver bangles comply with China’s national quality standards. She also reiterated the store’s policy of “ten times compensation if proven fake”, saying the business would fully honour that guarantee if any independent test confirmed the jewellery was counterfeit.

The dispute reportedly stemmed from the family’s belief that the bangles did not produce the sound expected of genuine silver when dropped onto the ground. However, no independent laboratory test or official appraisal had been carried out at the time of the confrontation.

The incident has sparked debate on Chinese social media, with many users arguing that any claim of counterfeit goods should be supported by professional testing rather than personal judgement. Others defended the shop, saying consumers should seek verification from an authorised testing agency before demanding compensation.
